Root canal treatment in Jeddah
save your natural tooth, painlessly
Comfortable, precise endodontic care from US-trained specialists, in a Saudi clinic.
A root canal saves the tooth you already have
When decay or injury reaches the soft tissue inside a tooth (the pulp), the result is often pain, sensitivity and, in time, infection. For generations the only answer was to remove the tooth. A root canal changes that: it clears the infection from inside the tooth while keeping the natural tooth itself in place.
Saving a natural tooth is almost always the better outcome. Nothing replaces the comfort, function and feel of your own tooth as reliably, and keeping it protects the neighbouring teeth and the surrounding bone from the changes that follow an extraction.
At TAM, root canal treatment (endodontics) is carried out by specialists trained at leading institutions in the United States, working with modern magnification and gentle, precise instruments. Whether you live in Jeddah or are travelling for care, the goal is the same: relieve the pain, clear the infection, and keep your tooth for years to come.

Is it really painful? The honest answer
The reputation of the root canal belongs to the past. The pain people remember is the pain of the infection itself: the throbbing toothache that brings them to the clinic in the first place. A root canal is the treatment that relieves that pain, not the cause of it.
With modern anaesthesia, the procedure itself feels much like having a routine filling. You stay comfortable throughout, and most patients are surprised by how straightforward it is. Mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal and settles easily with simple pain relief.
Our specialists work with operating microscopes and refined techniques that make treatment faster, more thorough and more comfortable than many people expect. Comfort is not an afterthought here; it is built into how we work.

When a root canal is the right answer
Some signs point clearly to the pulp inside a tooth being affected: a lingering ache, sharp or prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold, pain when biting, a darkening tooth, or a small bump on the gum. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all, and the problem is found on a routine X-ray.
A root canal becomes the right answer when the pulp is inflamed or infected but the tooth itself can still be saved. Treating it early stops the infection spreading into the bone, avoids an abscess, and spares you the more involved path of extraction and tooth replacement later.
During your consultation we examine the tooth, take the X-rays needed to see the canals clearly, and tell you honestly whether a root canal is the best option, or whether another approach would serve you better. You always know exactly where you stand before anything begins.
The terms, explained
| Term | What it means |
| Pulp | The living tissue inside a tooth: its nerves and blood vessels. When it becomes infected or inflamed, a root canal is needed. |
| Root Canal | Both the natural channel that runs inside the root of a tooth, and the treatment that cleans, disinfects and seals it. |
| Endodontics | The dental specialty focused on the inside of the tooth: the diagnosis and treatment of its pulp and roots. |
| Pulpitis | Inflammation of the pulp, usually caused by deep decay, a crack or an injury. It is the classic cause of a severe toothache. |
| Abscess | A pocket of infection that forms at the tip of the root. Left untreated it can spread into the surrounding bone. |
| Gutta-percha | The biocompatible material used to fill and seal the cleaned canals so that bacteria cannot return. |
| Apex | The very tip of the tooth’s root, where the canal meets the bone. |
| Crown / post & core | The restoration that is often placed after treatment to rebuild a root-treated tooth and protect it from fracture. |
A plain-language guide to the words you’ll hear around root canal treatment, so nothing about your care is a mystery.
What to expect, step by step
We examine the tooth and take precise digital X-rays (and, where needed, a 3D scan) to map the shape of the root canals and confirm the source of the problem. We explain what we find and agree on the plan with you before any treatment begins. The tooth and the area around it are then fully numbed, so you are comfortable from the very start.
Working through a tiny opening in the top of the tooth, the specialist removes the infected or inflamed pulp and gently cleans and shapes the canals inside the root, using magnification to see every detail. The space is then thoroughly disinfected. This is the step that clears the infection and ends the pain.
Once the canals are clean and dry, they are filled with gutta-percha, a biocompatible material that seals the space and prevents bacteria from returning. The opening in the tooth is closed with a secure filling. Many root canals are completed in a single visit; some more complex cases are carried out over two.
A root-treated tooth (especially a back tooth) can become brittle over time, so it is usually protected with a crown that restores its full strength and natural appearance. We’ll advise whether your tooth needs one and, if so, plan it around your schedule. This is particularly important for patients travelling from abroad.

Frequently asked questions
-
Is a root canal painful?
No, it’s the treatment that relieves pain. The ache you feel beforehand comes from the infection inside the tooth; the root canal removes it. With modern anaesthesia the procedure feels much like a routine filling, and any tenderness afterwards is mild and settles within a day or two with simple pain relief.
-
How long does a root canal take, and how many visits?
Many root canals are completed in a single appointment of about 60–90 minutes. More complex teeth, or those with infection that needs time to settle, may be treated over two visits. We’ll tell you which to expect once we’ve seen your X-rays, which is useful to know if you’re planning travel.
-
Why save the tooth instead of just removing it?
Nothing replaces a natural tooth as reliably as keeping it. A saved tooth preserves your natural bite and appearance and protects the neighbouring teeth and the bone around it from shifting. Extraction is quicker in the moment, but it usually leads to the longer, more involved path of an implant or bridge later.
-
Will I need a crown afterwards?
Often, yes. A back tooth that has had a root canal can become brittle and is usually protected with a crown to restore its strength and appearance; front teeth sometimes need only a filling. We’ll advise what your tooth needs and, for international patients, plan any crown around your time in Jeddah.
-
Do I need a consultation before I travel to Jeddah?
Yes, and it’s free. A short virtual consultation lets us review your X-rays or photos, confirm whether a root canal is the right treatment, and send you a clear plan and a fixed, all-inclusive price in writing before you book a flight.
-
I’m visiting Jeddah for Hajj or Umrah. Can I have a tooth treated?
Yes. A painful or infected tooth shouldn’t wait. Many root canals are completed in a single visit, and we schedule around your pilgrimage, never against it, so you can be comfortable for the rest of your journey.
-
Are your endodontists licensed, and can I verify their credentials?
Every specialist at TAM is licensed and verifiable through the Saudi Ministry of Health, and our endodontists hold degrees from named US institutions such as Boston University and the University of Pennsylvania. The credentials are real and checkable. We’re glad to share them during your consultation.
-
How do you keep treatment safe and comfortable?
The clinic is accredited by the Saudi Ministry of Health and follows international infection-control standards: validated sterilisation for every instrument and single-patient treatment rooms by default. Add modern anaesthesia and microscope-guided technique, and the result is treatment that is both safe and genuinely comfortable.
